– When I was little, I
actually wanted to be a fashion designer. That was the first one. (laughs) And then I wanted to be a cook. But throughout all those years, I always wanted to be a doctor, always wanted to help people. I study at Florida
International University. I love science. I love humanities. I love people and understanding where patients are coming from, not just their illness
but how it affects them, and applying empathy to any science. One skill that I’ve learned, especially throughout my university years, is probably listening to people. Look at them in their eyes and understand where they’re coming from. Set aside your own views and let their eyes take over the world for you. That is very important across
interdisciplinary studies, not seeing something through
a black and white lens. We all have different methods of thinking and approaching problems
and finding solutions. Queer rights and
immigration is on my mind, coming from two immigrants
and a long line of people just trying to find a safe place to be in. So in 10 years, my biggest dream is to do pro bono work,
especially in Miami where there’s a large population
of especially LGBTQ+ youth, and offering them just not only that care but that warmth and that
welcoming home for them.
