I’m Michiel. I’m a staff member of LMN Ghent and the primary care zone. We very often notice that providers experience resistance in their patients and clients and that they struggle with it. We want to support them. That’s why we organise a training in which we give them some tools to put the patient, the client in an active role and help them discover what really matters to that patient, that client. In this training I learned that all resistance experienced by professionals and patients can be reduced to the same principles. And by coping with this in a personal way, and asking differentquestions to the patients and being curious, that this really helps to get closer to the patient, the person and his personal goals. You just feel that it is time for people to look in a different way to caretaking, wish to interact in a different way with their patient and most of all with each other. I think it’s an eye-opener to the client or patient you’re working with and, in fact, there is a whole world around that person. And you cannot achieve everything alone, so it’s better to collaborate upon helping the client. It’s fun to collaborate. Together we’re strong! It’s a very innovative approach to caretaking. You again feel the urge to take steps forward with that patient Ever since we followed the training, I feel we collaborate more. It’s just fun and yes, there’s something in it for you. I’m more eager to do my job!
