My name is Kurt Gerhardt and I have worked
almost forty years through speaking, that’s how I made my money. And the more I did it
the more I enjoyed it, and now I am in a position where I enjoy teaching others to speak better
than they would normally do. I think the main point would be: make people enjoy speaking, make
them aware of the things that are important, your attitude, with which you come to the
microphone and the camera, and the language you are using: is it for specialists? is it
for ordinary people? It takes a lot of experience but at least you can be told what to pay attention
to and what to consider in order to become a better public speaker. Today the topic was
that very complicated one about the refugee crisis that we have in Europe, and the students
would have up to forty seconds to elaborate on that, to make remarks that are important.
We are gonna take a look at the recordings, we’ll make observations, we will formulate
our observations and then make suggestions to each participant, we’ll say: try to work
on your face, control your hands, your whole attitude, put a little more life into your
face, things like that. The best message I can give is: learn to enjoy your own speaking,
enjoy how much fun it is to speak to other people and speak publicly, don’t be afraid,
you can do it!
