Haywood Community College – Professional Crafts: Fiber

NARRATOR: The Professional Crafts: Fiber
program at Haywood Community College immerses students in the traditional
craft of cloth weaving. Students get lots of time
in the spacious studio to master the weaving process, learn how to choose colors, prepare thread, and dress the loom. The end result: totally unique
cloth designs. But there’s more to fiber than weaving. Classes in sewing, dyeing, and
screen-printing give students the skills to make original,
market-ready creations. You could come into the program
as a novice weaver and just start from learning
how to dress the loom and make cloth, to having
woven for 20 years and still come in and expand on the
knowledge you already know. NARRATOR: Professional Crafts students
can take advantage of HCC’s connections with
local crafting organizations. And courses in business and marketing help Fiber graduates get on the road
to successful crafting careers.
